When last we peered into the Misty Mirror, we got a little bit too close, slipped, and banged our head. The resulting concussion led to delusions. Boy, was that fun!
Today we continue our look at the superpowers that hide within us all. Recall that we are often blind to those powers. Recall that we must stop believing the falsehoods about ourselves that society constantly hurls at us. Recall that Joe resembles a flagpole, and is often mistaken for one at social gatherings. (In order to counteract that, I should adopt a signature flag to wear at social occasions, so people will realize I’m there.)
We need to erase the negative images of ourselves, and see the truth within. Each of us has capabilities that, to another, appear to be superhuman. For example, I am in awe of people who are toddler-whisperers, and who tame the rambunctious two-year-old. A superpower if there ever was one! And what about people who can shop at Walmart without getting lost and calling Security for help getting out? Awesome! Mind you, I’m not saying that ever actually happened to me.
Once we discover our powers, we need to reinforce that knowledge every day. It takes time to overcome the negative that has been fed to us for so long. (Note: Those of you who are already too full of yourself, skip this step. And the previous one.)
The next logical course of action is for those who recognize their superpowers to band together to fight evil and lunk-headedness. We would be following the grand example of comic book superheroes. They usually form secret leagues with cool names, so they can have secret meetings to hobnob with fellow superheroes. I can’t think of better role models to pattern our lives after than comic book characters. Evidently, Hollywood can’t either.
Once we’ve formed our super league, we’ll be known as the Department of Incredibly Powerful Superheroes (DIPS). We can meet at the Fortress of Solid Dudes (& Dudettes), and exchange secret greetings, handshakes, and fist bumps. Look for me there!
I’ll be the flagpole flying the DIPS flag.
